Slightly surprising news but 31 year old Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro will call time on her career at the end of the 2020 season.
Carla has played over 1000 career matches picking up 5 WTA titles. Her biggest event win was at Qatar in 2016 winning a Premier 5 event there against Jelena Ostapenko.
Carla is a seven time Grand Slam singles quarter finalist and was a French Open doubles semi-finalist back in 2014.
She has record 28 top 10 wins so far in her career but none since defeating Caroline Garcia at the 2018 US Open.
Carla has an unorthodox style of play. Her game causes trouble for opponents. The skill she has reminds me slightly of Radwanska and Vinci.
The sliced backhand is one of the most difficult shots to come to terms with when she is in full flow. The shot gives you nothing to work with at all, it takes all pace off the ball and is a pain once you get involved in a rally with it.
Carla is currently down at 55 in the world and once reached a career high of 6 on the WTA tour.
