When the pressure is on, when it is win or bust there is only one man to call.
Novak Djokovic’ perfect performance against Rafael Nadal in ATP Cup will go down as one of the matches of the year. His relentless fight is unmatched and has taken his record to a quite outstanding 8 matches and 19 sets of tennis won in a row against Rafael Nadal on a hard court.
The performance oozed class from Djokovic.
I’ve seen a lot of Djokovic over the years where I have sat there and said “too good” but this was another level and this early on in the season is worrying for everyone else!
The first game set the tone and from there on in it didn’t change much. 8 minute opening in which Djokovic broke serve. The Serb looked locked in and the world number one was literally dripping immediately in the match.
The first set theme was set as Djokovic cruised to a 6-2 lead.
Second set we did see more of Rafa but not to an extent of really causing an issue for the Serb except he did have a chance…
2-3 15-40. A game which in fact saw Nadal have a look at five break points but couldn’t capitalise on them and Novak on one came up with this…
Does it get better than this?
No matter what Rafa threw at him he had an answer for it. He was just not unfazed by the situation.
Having to come out and know a win is a must and to perform like that against the current world number one is breath-taking.
I will pull the brilliance of Djokovic apart soon from this match and right now those hoping to compete with him in Melbourne need to do some work.
