Novak Djokovic once again is through to an Australian Open final. Never has the Serb lost a semi-final in Melbourne (7/7) nor has he lost a final in Melbourne (7/7).
Before the match it had become a bit of a circus regarding Roger Federer’s fitness. He was spotted practicing at Melbourne Park, he did have a bandage on but I think the whole drama of it was overplayed in the course of the match.
There did seem to be an issue in movement which became more obvious as the match went on when moving to his right side to play the forehand.
It did look like if Novak Djokovic was going to do it then he would have to go the hard way around the number three seed. Novak just didn’t get going and Roger was out of the blocks quick playing quick tennis.
Novak found himself 1-4 15-40 down and a couple of points from being 5-1 down in the opening set. At 5-2 he found his mojo and forced a tie-break. It was pretty much a runaway and at a moment of almost finding himself down 1-5 in the set he was up 5-1 in the tie-break.
After the set we did see Roger go off court for a medical time out.
On return the world number two stepped up his level once again. He began to move around the court better than how he opened up the first set of the match.
He got that break of serve and didn’t really look back at all.
Coming into a third set it felt like we were just waiting for that break and in the six game it came for the defending champion who took a 4-2.
Federer wasn’t completely done there. At two sets and a break down he turned to ”all out attack” and found an in-road on Novak’s serve at 0-30.
Novak held with ease and at 2-5 would ask the question of Federer.
Question was answered and then it shifted to Novak.
8th Australian Open semi-final, 8th win!
What a performance!
