Great Britain’s Joe Salisbury who has formed a very good doubles team with Rajeev Ram from the USA have won their first Grand Slam title together.
It was their first major final together having previously made it to the quarter finals of Roland Garros last year. They now have three finals together since teaming up around 12 months ago.
When the new rankings comet on Monday he has firmly cemented his place as the new British number one with a career high ranking of number four. Second highest British player is Jamie Murray ranked down at 25 in the world now.
Joe and Rajeev had a pretty much straight forward route to the final. The pair did drop the first set to Kukushkin and Bublik in the semi-finals but recovered to win in three sets.
Their opponents in the final were Luke Saville and Max Purcell. The Australian duo received a wildcard for the event and made it all the way to the final which included some impressive wins against Dodig/Polasek and Tecau/Rojer.
Joe and Rajeev had too much for the Australian pair in Sunday’s final defeating them 6-4 6-2 to win their first major at their first attempt!
