Sandwiched between Charleston and Stuttgart, two key clay court events to kick off the clay court season is the new Fed Cup Finals in Hungary.
The twelve nations are now set for April and the draw has been done for the new format of the Fed Cup.
The groups are as followed:
Group A:
France
Hungary
Russia
France are defending champions and it is a tough group to come into, Russia are a very good team and if they can get their best playing it will be interesting to see how this group ends up.
Group B:
Australia
Belarus
Belgium
Will we see Azarenka and Barty for their countries? This is something we will have to wait and see, it does come during a busy part of the season so could that put some off?
Group C:
USA
Spain
Slovakia
Will Serena be back? She was there in the play-offs. She doesn’t do Stuttgart and I can’t see her doing Charleston so this may kick off her European clay court swing. For Spain, will Muguruza return or will Carla continue to lead her country?
Group D:
Czech Republic
Germany
Switzerland
In every sport you have the group of death and if they bring their best were in for a treat. Czechs can call on Kvitova, Pliskova, Vondrousova etc.. Germany have Kerber and Georges who missed the play-off and world number Belinda Bencic will no doubt lead her country.
