As full debut seasons go, Bianca Andreescuโs 2019 was quite phenomenal:
48 wins
8 defeats
8 wins v Top 10 Opponents
Indian Wells champion
Rogers Cup champion
US Open champion
No.4 in the world
Despite winning 48 of her 56 matches the Canadian did miss an awful lot of tennis due to a shoulder injury which has been a persistent problem.
Another persistent problem for Bianca has been a knee injury she suffered at the WTA Finals. Bianca had to retire down 3-6 to Karolina Pliskova with the problem and hasnโt played a match since 30th of October.
Including the off-season it would have been over four months since Bianca last played a match and is expected to return to action at Indian Wells.
Bianca was named in Canadaโs Fed Cup team but only scheduled to play the doubles which were never played as the tie was lost leading to questions over her selection and fitness.
Indian Wells is where Bianca is expected to return to tennis, it is a tough ask to return after almost five months out at a big event defending big points.ย
By the time her points drop off before the event the world number four will see her ranking drop considerably to at least number 10 in the world and possibly lower depending what others get up to in the coming weeks.
Bianca rewrote the history books last year, the Canadian was a wildcard and at just 18 won on her debut in the Californian desert.
Her first win was against Begu, Bianca had to come back from a set down to secure her first of seven wins.
The Canadianโs next four were much more straight forward all in straight sets defeating Voegele, Cibulkova, Wang and Muguruza with the latter three all seeded.
Elina Svitolina was her opponent in the quarter finals and as per her first match of the fortnight she had to come back from a set behind.ย
In the final she found herself in a three set battle once again but this time won the first set on route to winning the title against Angie Kerber.
Her run to this title and her season was like a fairytale, injury has forced a bit of a bump in the road but weโd all like to see Bianca back very soon!
