Simona Halep will be back in action this week.
The Romanian’s return was set to begin in Palermo this last week but opted out due to the Covid cases in Romania and as she said herself how anxious she felt about the situation. Unfortunately it didn’t go down too well with the tournament organisers who released a pretty rude and out of touch with the world statement.
Throughout the lockdown Halep has been practicing mostly on clay so playing in Prague made sense as she said she wanted matches and I cannot see her going to the USA.
Darren Cahill will not be there but there has been constant communication between Halep and her two coaches Darren and Arte with the latter being with her in Prague.
Halep has been showing her practices streamed online and seems very pumped for the return to tennis for her which is likely to be Prague, maybe Istanbul, Rome and Roland Garros but is yet to officially announce her plans around the US Open.
Simona Halep is the only top 10 player in Prague, she opens her return against Polona Hercog and the draw is filled with tricky players.
The draw is filled with gritty players who can grind out performances on a clay court and will be the perfect test for Halep in this first week back.
Time on court is key for Halep and she is giving herself a big chance to get as much practice in as possible before the major clay events by playing doubles with Barbora Strycova too.
Simona and Barbora will be up against Kudermetova and Pavlyuchenkova in the first round of the doubles.
Despite there being no form book to look back on for players the pressure is still on the best and the top seed to perform but things seem very calm and ready right now from the Halep camp.
