Wozniacki 6-4 2-6 6-2 Sharapova; punishing rallies, incredible defence and that rally that defied description!

What made the rivalry between Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki so fantastic over the years was both’s ability, intensity and that face they brought everything out onto the court.

In New York in 2014 these two delivered one of the memorable matches in US Open history!

These two always produce and the lived up to the expectations and was in my opinion their best battle.

It was the Dane who off to the better start really pushing the Russian back to take an immediate break of serve.

Wozniacki was like a ninja at the net to save break points but couldn’t stop the Russian’s reply as the two were level again at 4-4.

Maria began to dictate rallies but still couldn’t get past Wozniacki who’s defence was absolutely sensational throughout the entire match as she took the first set 6-4.

The reply didn’t take too long from Maria as she struck early in the second set and raced away with it winning 6-2 as the match would go to a third set.

It was anyones from there on in, Wozniacki continued to defend incredibly well and Maria was pressing with some incredible ground strokes but breaking down the Dane was the challenge.

It had to be exceptional there was nothing else to it and Maria did produce plenty of shots that make you sit up and applaud but at 1-2 0-40 facing three major break points this happened…

It defies description.

How was this possible? The strikes from Maria would have won the rally multiple times against anyone else but Wozniacki was relentless in her defence.

The break was crucial and the theme was set with the 10th seed going onto break again to win 6-4 2-6 6-2 against Maria in one of the most incredible matches Arthur Ashe stadium has ever seen!
