Some tough scenes in Rome earlier on in the day as Daria Kasatkina’s run came to a cruel end.
The Russian has struggled with form for around a year dropping from number ten in the world to outside the top seventy and it has been tough for Daria. A couple of years ago she was a direct entrant in Rome but had to come through qualifying and was by far having her best run winning four on the bounce setting up a meeting with Azarenka had to withdraw before the conclusion of the first set.
It was a good match and in the tie-break with the Belarusian leading 1-0 she hit a backhand clipping the net and Daria ran for it and slid over on her right ankle in a horror fall.
Vika immediately went over to console Kasatkina, brought some ice over for her ankle and and towel to wipe the clay off the Russian following her fall.

It was a horrible fall from Daria and I really do hope she isn’t out for too long and has a quick and successful recovery.
Vika and the umpire helped Daria to her seat to be seen by the physio who recommended immediately pulling out leaving the Russian in tears but Vika stayed to have a chat with her and give her kiss on the head.
Incredible sportsmanship from Vika and I hope for a speedy recovery for Daria.
