Serena Williams withdraws from Roland Garros

Serena Williams will most likely be back in 2021 having pulled out of Roland Garros with an Achilles injury.

The Achilles injury was something that the former world number one had a slight issue with in New York, decided to skip Rome but it hasn’t healed enough for Serena to get through the season.

Serena said:

“I think I need four to six weeks of sitting and doing nothing,”

“I have been struggling to walk so that’s a telltale sign that I should try to recover.

“Achilles is an injury you don’t want to play with – I think it was one of the worst, don’t want to get to that point, I want it to get better.”

Serena was bizarrely asked if we will see her again this year which I did think was a bit odd as there is only one tournament left on the calendar and I will be incredibly surprised if we see Serena until January.

There could be a possibility the 23 time major champion looks at defending her title over in Auckland as a warm up to the Australian Open but that will all be travel dependent too.
