Team Russia have become the second winners of the ATP Cup following a dominating week of tennis mostly from their top two Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev..
Both of them, Daniil who will turn 25 during the open and Andrey who is 23 both ended their week in incredible fashion, unbeaten and looking like a force to reckon with at the Australian Open is just around the corner.
Daniil and Andrey dropped just one set each throughout the week in an astonishing run of performances which included:
Medvedev
d. Nishikori 6-2 6-4
d. Schwartzman 7-5 6-3
d. Zverev 3-6 6-3 7-5
d. Berrettini 6-4 6-2
Rublev
d. Nishioka 6-1 6-2
d. Pella 6-1 6-2
d. Struff 3-6 6-1 6-2
d. Fognini 6-1 6-2
Both unbeaten runs were exceptional and with the greatest of respect to Berrettini and Fognini stopping these two today seemed the impossible task.
Medvedev goes into the Australian Open on a 14 match unbeaten run which in that time includes 9 wins over top 10 players which is insane.
Rublev likewise is in very good form, he is ruthless and in each of his wins won a set 6-1 and will be one to watch having made the final eight in Roland Garros at the back end of last year.
The win is a fantastic moment for Russian Tennis, I don’t think it will be the last title they win as a team over the coming years!
