Another day see’s another withdrawal from the WTA Finals. Following the withdrawals of Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu it was Kiki Bertens who this time had to call her run as alternate in Shenzhen to an early end. Her match against Belinda Bencic would decide who would qualify for the semi-finals to face Elina Svitolina and it was a really good encounter. Everything that could have happened in Shenzhen today did happen. We woke up to the news that former world number one Naomi Osaka had withdrawn from the tournament due to a shoulder injury. She sustained the injury in the Beijing final and it flared up again in her win against Petra Kvitova.
