WTA Finals Day 7: Svitolina & Barty through on a day which saw another injury!

Elina Svitolina and Ash Barty will meet in Sunday’s final in Shenzhen but the Saturday has been dominated by yet another injury! This time sadly a set up it was Belinda Bencic who saw her match come to a quicker end than anticipated after winning the first set 7-5. Belinda had the trainer on for her back and was suffering from cramp but couldn’t continue down 7-5 3-6 1-4 to defending champion Elina Svitolina. The second match of the day saw a first meeting in 2019 between the world number one and number two ranked player on the WTA tour. … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 7: Svitolina & Barty through on a day which saw another injury!

Who will advance from semi-final Saturday to Shenzhen showdown on Sunday?

Two of the four I expected in the semi-finals are here. It has been an epic week of tennis so far and it’s going to get better as the four remaining players all eye up the Billie Jean King trophy but who will be up against who? Ash Barty v Karolina Pliskova World number one against the world number two in the semi-finals. Pliskova has surprised me, I loved watching her against Halep because we saw everything in her game. We saw lights out tennis at the beginning and at the end the bit in the middle was a bit … Continue reading Who will advance from semi-final Saturday to Shenzhen showdown on Sunday?

WTA Finals Day 6; 3 out of 3 for Svitolina ✅ Extra money 💰 Kenin provided a test 👍🏻Halep & Pliskova play out a bonkers match! 🤯

No withdrawals or injuries today but good grief I need a lie down after today’s tennis. We now have our semi-finals confirmed for Saturday. Elina Svitolina will take on Belinda Bencic as we know and Ash Barty will get Karolina Pliskova but first what the hell happened today? Elina Svitolina made it three out of three and if you were to ask me at the beginning of the week who would get through to the semi-finals unscathed I wouldn’t have had the Ukrainian down as that person but she has pleasantly surprised us all. Sofia Kenin can walk away with … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 6; 3 out of 3 for Svitolina ✅ Extra money 💰 Kenin provided a test 👍🏻Halep & Pliskova play out a bonkers match! 🤯

WTA Finals Day 4; Bianca retires but could still play ❓Svitolina qualifiers ✅ Halep & Pliskova set for Friday shootout! 👀

Day four was the second day of action for purple group and it gave us our first semi-finalist of 2019. Defending champion Elina Svitolina is safely through to the round two extending her run of wins to eight in a row at the WTA Finals which is a remarkable effort from the Ukrainian. She has turned up and turned the tennis on this week, it has been faultless and gutsy. She came into this with a bit of a point to prove in my opinion having not done so well against the best this year and my god she has … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 4; Bianca retires but could still play ❓Svitolina qualifiers ✅ Halep & Pliskova set for Friday shootout! 👀

WTA Finals Day 2; Halep & Svitolina impress in their opening matches!

Day 2 at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen certainly delivered. Simona Halep and firstly Elina Svitolina opened up their tournaments with impressive victories. Elina Svitolina saw off Karolina Pliskova in two sets of tennis with a mentally strong and well thought out game plan against the Czech number one. Pliskova has been left with a lot to ponder going forward after a disappointing performance. Defending champion Svitolina sets out her stall with a typically gutsy performance! Later on in the day was Andreescu and Halep were up against each other for the first time. It was the Canadian who Gott … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 2; Halep & Svitolina impress in their opening matches!

Defending champion Svitolina sets out her stall with a typically gutsy performance!

Elina Svitolina may be title-less in 2019 but the defending WTA Finals champion could not have asked for a perfect start to her title defence. A 7-6 6-4 win against Karolina Pliskova gave the 8th seed her first top 5 win of the year. For me this match up was always ‘must win’ for both players having difficult years at big moments of big tournaments. Elina set out her typically gutsy stall, she went for it and chased everything down which is what I love about her game. She said after the match the court being a little bit slower … Continue reading Defending champion Svitolina sets out her stall with a typically gutsy performance!
