At the age of 37, Feliciano Lopez is set to create a new record. The Spaniard who is as of this year tournament director in Madrid did something that hasn’t been done since 1997 at Queens Club winning both singles and doubles titles. Now he is about to embark on his 70th consecutive Grand Slam appearance which is a stand out record. Wimbledon will be Roger Federer’s 66th consecutive appearance where as Alize Cornet is the highest active player on the women’s tour on the leader board with Wimbledon being her 51st. In January the thought of playing tennis again didn’t look promising. This week Andy Murray returned to doubles with Feliciano Lopez and they have re-written history at Queens this week on their way to their first title together in their first partnership on the tour. Thursday night entertainment does not get better than this. Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez have seen off the top seeds at Queens Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal 7-6 6-3. Just to see Andy Murray back on court once again fist pumping was a sight we have missed over the course of the year. As ever with new doubles team there are moments of lack of communication which you’d expect and even happens with the best of teams. These two complimented each other well.
