Brisbane, Indian Wells and Miami. Victoria Azarenka has picked up her third title of the year and has also become a member of an illustrious club of players who have won the Indian Wells and Miami double in the same year. Kim Clijsters and Steffi Graf are the other two players who completed the double in the same calendar year. The season has continued to go from strength to strength for the Belarusian who began the season ranked at 22 in the world and on Monday will be back at 5 in the world and is sat on an impressive … Continue reading Victoria Azarenka completes the Indian Wells and Miami double!
On the WTA tour only two players have ever completed the Indians Wells and Miami double in the same year but could the in-form Victoria Azarenka add her name to that illustrious club? Anyone know who the other two players are? I’ll post the names at the bottom… However back to Miami I watched Vika against Magda Linette and well she was so good and too good for the qualifier. Her level right now is right up there and being back inside the top 10 in the world makes her a contender for these big tournaments once again. I said … Continue reading Could Vika become the third women to complete Indian Wells + Miami double in same year?
To say these two have history is a bit of an understatement. However their recent history has been a little bit one-sided. Novak Djokovic has won the last five meetings between the two without a set dropped and Nadal’s last win against Novak being almost two years ago at Roland Garros 2014 where Nadal won the final but since then the Spaniard has struggled with injuries, form and consistency but has looked sharp this week! So far so good… To get to the semi-finals is a good achievement for Nadal. He has had a good week and played some exceptional … Continue reading Indian Wells Preview – Novak Djokovic v Rafael Nadal
There were obviously some nerves at the beginning but Nadal soon brushed them off saving two break points in his very first game to hold and for Kei it was a pretty straight forward start with a very comfortable and quick hold of serve to begin proceedings. It didn’t take long for the groundstrokes of Kei to cause issues for the former world number one getting good depth on the court and coming up with a beautiful backhand passing shot to begin the rally set up the game perfectly and the Japanese number one got the first break of serve … Continue reading Nadal powers past Nishikori to make Indian Wells semi-finals!
When Victoria Azarenka means business there is no stopping her. For the second time this year the Belarusian has won a match 6-0 6-0. Alison Van Utyvanck was on the end of a 6-0 6-0 defeat at the Australian Open in what was a brilliant and scary performance from the world number one and she was at it once again in the quarter finals of Indian Wells with a 6-0 6-0 victory against Magdalena Rybarikova. Almost everything from Vika in her performance against Rybarikova was pretty much spot on. The forehand was as usual exceptional and she saved all four … Continue reading Azarenka strolls past Rybarikova at Indian Wells
David Goffin is into his first Masters 1000 semi-final having only previously won one match before this week at Indian Wells whereas for Marin Cilic his record in Masters 1000 quarter finals now stands at 0/8. I was saying last year I want to see a different player in the latter stages of these big tournaments to mix it up a little and well David has certainly done that so far this week. To get to the semi-finals he has had to defeat youngster Francis Tiafoe and Pella both form a set down and has now beaten two Grand Slam … Continue reading David Goffin through to his first Masters 1000 semi-final!
I’ve said before Karolina Pliskova sometimes makes tennis look easy and well the Czech player has impressed all week and is through to her first WTA Premier Mandatory semi-final after a straight sets win against the upcoming star Daria Kasatkina who likewise has had a very good tournament at Indian Wells. Pliskova’s whole game was pretty much spot on and the style of tennis she plays where she looks for big winners tries to paint the lines can be a bit hit and miss at times as we have seen throughout the last few months or more as she gives … Continue reading Pliskova crushes Kasatkina to advance to the semi-finals!
