Miami Preview – Nick Kyrgios v Kei Nishikori

Nick Kyrgios’ debut in Miami could not be going better. The Australian had never made it past the third round of a Masters 1000 event in the past but is now one win away from his first final. Standing in his way of a place in the final is former semi-finalist Kei Nishikori who always does well in Miami and is looking to progressing to his second Masters 1000 final after making the final of Madrid back in 2014 but ended up retiring due to injury with Nadal lifting the title. Nick has made it to the semi-final with some … Continue reading Miami Preview – Nick Kyrgios v Kei Nishikori

Miami Preview – Victoria Azarenka v Angelique Kerber

The Australian Open champion and the Indian Wells champion will go head to head for the third time this season. A place in the final of Miami is at stake with Kerber finally finding some form after winning her maiden Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne where as the impressive Victoria Azarenka who has only lost once this year to Angelique Kerber is looking to become only the third women to hold the Indian Wells and Miami title just like Steffi Graf and Kim Clijsters have done in the past. Form wise I think Azarenka has been the best player on … Continue reading Miami Preview – Victoria Azarenka v Angelique Kerber

Johanna Konta cruises into Miami quarter finals!

On a day that has seen surprise defeats for Agnieszka Radwanska and Serena Williams the performance of the day came from Johanna Konta who dealt with the trickery of Monica Niculescu well in a convincing 6-2 6-2 win for the British number one who is getting closer and closer to breaking into the world’s top 20. Niculescu’s backhand is one of the most unusual shots in tennis which isn’t a bad thing but Konta from the first point of the match didn’t let her settle at all. Everything about Konta’s game was exceptional I couldn’t pick out a fault. The … Continue reading Johanna Konta cruises into Miami quarter finals!

Serena Williams’ hunt for 9th Miami title ended by Kuznetsova

For the first time in 16 years Serena Williams has gone out of Miami before the quarter finals. I’ve seen all three of Serena’s matches in Miami this week and the word I used to sum up Serena’s performances was ‘unconvincing’. Even after winning the first set against Kuznetsova today 7-6 I just didn’t feel that usual sense of Serena is going to win this and then from 1-1 in the second set she went on to lose 8 games in a row which is completely unheard of and ended up losing the match 7-6 1-6 2-6 and hitting 50 … Continue reading Serena Williams’ hunt for 9th Miami title ended by Kuznetsova

Victor Troicki produces great shot but loses the point…

We have seen quite a few party tricks in Miami thus far from Novak Djokovic and Agnieszka Radwanska and yesterday Victor Troicki joined in on the action yesterday with a volley winner whilst jumping over the net but lost the point… video via YouTube Channel – ATPWorldTour It is clever from Troicki but its shame for him as well he didn’t win the point. At the same time it’s a spectacular volley from David Goffin who got so much top spin on the ball that it bounced back over the net meaning Troicki lost the point as he basically hit … Continue reading Victor Troicki produces great shot but loses the point…

Could Vika become the third women to complete Indian Wells + Miami double in same year?

On the WTA tour only two players have ever completed the Indians Wells and Miami double in the same year but could the in-form Victoria Azarenka add her name to that illustrious club? Anyone know who the other two players are? I’ll post the names at the bottom… However back to Miami I watched Vika against Magda Linette and well she was so good and too good for the qualifier. Her level right now is right up there and being back inside the top 10 in the world makes her a contender for these big tournaments once again. I said … Continue reading Could Vika become the third women to complete Indian Wells + Miami double in same year?
