Simona Halep’s season has been good to a point. If you look at her performances in her defeats this season she continues to give out invitations. Barty, Serena, Kiki, Vondrousova, Bencic and Anisimova all have hit her off the court but it’s part of her own making. Tactically I think she has got a lot of matches wrong this year. When I was in Melbourne I saw her kind of flick that switch against Serena but it was a little too late but she hasn’t worked it out since. Let’s go back to Melbourne; Simona was dropping the ball in … Continue reading Simona Halep needs to stop giving out invitations and find her ruthless streak!
Since the beginning of 2018 Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from 19 tournaments. Majority of these have been on hard courts but still a high number. Rafa has had every injury possible it feels like but he never gives up. During this time he has had some tough matches as well. In 2018 he couldn’t complete his matches in Melbourne and New York due to injury and at Indian Wells earlier on in the year had to withdraw against Federer and skip Miami. Preparations going into April were not ideal. Before the clay court season I said previous high standards have … Continue reading The “Mental Genius” who played lights out tennis when it mattered the most!
It is that time of the year, time to rate their Roland Garros. Who impressed, surprised and didn’t really turn up over the course of the fortnight in Paris? Kei Nishikori – 5 Harsh? Maybe. Good to a point but to be honest I’m a bit bored of the theme at the moment for Kei. At majors it seems to be a case of make things difficult for yourself early on and when it comes to a top player it turns into a walk-over. It should be and needs to be better. Amanda Anisimova – 9 Very good tournament from … Continue reading Rating they’re Roland Garros; who impressed and who didn’t?
For an incredible twelfth time it is Rafa’s day in Paris. A valiant effort from Dominic Thiem who has had another incredible journey at Roland Garros wasn’t enough to budge Nadal today. No one on the tour would have done better against Rafa today. These two were absolutely relentless today. It was so good especially in the first two sets and there wasn’t much to split them but a bit of a wild service game from Dominic Thiem which set Nadal in good stead to take the first. The reaction from the Austrian was what you would expect. He held … Continue reading Unmatched brilliance! Rafael Nadal wins his 12th French Open title!
Ash Barty is a Grand Slam champion. It’s been a hell of a journey to this moment in her career. In 2014 Ash Barty at the age of 18 made a decision to take a hiatus from Tennis. The Australian who made her debut at the age of 15 had been travelling around the world on the tour and wanted a bit of a teenage life. Following her break she decided to take up another sport, Cricket. She was really good at Cricket and was playing semi-professional. In 2016 (3 years ago this week) she announced her return to tennis. … Continue reading Ash Barty; Tennis Hiatus 😭 Taking Up Cricket 🏏 Tennis Return 🎾 New York 🗽Melbourne 🇳🇿 Miami 🏆 Paris 🏆 Wimbledon Chances 💪🏻
Orchestrating a clay court win against Rafael Nadal is the most difficult task in tennis. No one has defeated Rafael Nadal more times on clay since the beginning of 2016 than Dominic Thiem. The Austrian has four wins against the Spaniard on this surface. However, no one has beaten Dominic Thiem more times on clay since the beginning of 2016 than Rafael Nadal who has 6 wins. Rafa is on course for a remarkable 12th title at Roland Garros and 94th win in 96 matches in Paris which is simply mad. How does Dominic Thiem do it on the biggest … Continue reading Can Dominic Thiem produce the extraordinary in Paris against Rafael Nadal?
Novak Djokovic came onto court on Friday afternoon as a man who did not look very happy. His semi-final against Dominic Thiem was in fact the final game of the day to begin at Roland Garros. Earlier on in the day we had seen Nadal take out Federer, Vondrousova defeat Konta and a rollercoaster between Barty and Anisimova all having to play in wet and windy conditions. For me yesterday Novak came out with the wrong attitude he looked frustrated and it showed in his tennis. The conditions had not been ideal or day and the wind of over 40mph … Continue reading Frustration, Irritation & Moaning; Djokovic got involved in too much unnecessary drama!
