Casper Ruud is someone I’ve watched a lot of this year and I was excited to see him come to Milan and a round robin exit will disappoint him but can walk away with positives and plenty to build on going into 2020. Ruud is from Oslo, Norway and will celebrate his 21st birthday just before Christmas. Ruud is a lifelong Liverpool supporter and his tennis idol is Rafael Nadal spending most of his time training at the Rafael Nadal academy in Majorca. Serve Very good serve, probably second best to De Minaur out of the eight guys in Milan … Continue reading Casper Ruud; serve ✅ too much topspin? 🤷🏼♂️ backhand needs work 👨🏼🔧 stats 📈 2020 🔮
The NextGen Finals in Milan has been an epic watch so far. With one round robin match left each there is still much to play for on Thursday. Demon finding form! Alex de Minaur has been finding his form after a bit of a struggle during his first match against Davidovich Fokina. I was worried that the Australian was a bit tired following an intense few weeks on the tour and still quite a bit of tennis to play. Despite dropping one set he still looked in good form as he dominated the baseline much better today against Kecmanovic. Dropping … Continue reading Milan; Demon finding form 😈 Foki injury 🚑 Casper up & running 💪🏻 Frances edges past erratic Humbert ✅
The first match at the NextGen Finals in Milan was a very good start to the weeks proceeding at the Allianz Cloud. Casper Ruud came up against Miomir Kecmanovic in the first match of Group A. Just a reminder of some key rules from the competition; no line judges – all electronic calls no ad, deciding point is receivers choice at 3-3 we go to a tiebreak to 7 I was impressed with both guys who set out their stall nicely. Casper Ruud is the more defensive of the two players and finds most of his joy when he can … Continue reading Miomir Kecmanovic 4-3 4-3 4-2 Casper Ruud
The final eight are on route. A chance to finish the season with some silverware at the Next Gen Finals in Milan but who will reign champion at the championships? Stefanos Tsitsipas will not be at the event as he has qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals in London. Felix Auger-Aliassime was due to play but an injury has ruled him out of the event. Alex De Minaur Ranked – 28 Age – 21 Nationality – Australian A very good year for Alex, if anything an underrated year from the Australian. Three titles this year in Sydney, Atlanta and … Continue reading Which NextGen stars are heading to Milan for the season finale?
NextGen star Casper Ruud has led his country into the play-offs of the Davis Cup. The 20 year old from Norway spends a lot of his time at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca and I had the pleasure of seeing him in Madrid qualifiers earlier this year. His game stood out to me as someone who could go far in the game. Roger Federer said after their meeting at Roland Garros he will be top 50 and hopefully top 20 in the future. His game his built on his strong inside out forehand which gives him a lot of … Continue reading Casper Ruud leads Norway into Davis Cup Play-Off’s
Roger Federer v Casper Ruud Casper Ruud is a player I have been watching a lot of this year. His dad is a former tennis player and the man from Oslo who has done a lot of training at the Rafael Nadal academy as well. Casper is currently playing some of his best tennis on the clay and now faces his biggest challenge to date in Roger Federer. I’ll be honest, I was not convinced too much about Federer’s level against Otto from Germany in the previous round. He got the job done in straight sets against the German but … Continue reading Roger v Casper, Grigor v Stan & Rafa v David
With Mr Gulbis you never know what you are going to get. The Latvian is a former semi-finalist back in 2014 just to make us all feel old but it was the continued rise of the man from Oslo Casper Ruud who got the win today. His clay court tennis has been exceptional to watch this year with a good run in Houston and Rome of late and earlier on in the year in Rio where he made the final. It wasn’t routine for the 20 year old but it was pretty much untroubled. Like I said with Ernests is … Continue reading Casper Ruud 6-2 7-6 6-0 Ernests Gulbis
