6-1 6-2, Muguruza powers past Svitolina in just over an hour

I haven’t been able to say it for some time but that wasn’t just ruthless that was Muguruthless. We haven’t seen such a high level of tennis from the Spaniard over the last 18 months or so with consistency being a big issue but with Conchita Martinez back in her corner the Spaniard looks more confident and composed. There doubts before the tournament about whether Garbine would play after being ill with the flu but despite a couple of slows starts in matches she came out firing against the number five seed. The first set was done just over 20 … Continue reading 6-1 6-2, Muguruza powers past Svitolina in just over an hour

Katie Boulter leaves with positives as Kyle Edmund and Jo Konta crash out!

Katie Boulter may have joined the earlier casualties from the day with fellow Brits Jo Konta and Kyle Edmund going out in round one but Katie can leave Melbourne with plenty of positives. Katie found herself ranked outside the top 300 and used her protected ranking to play the Australian Open. Round one exit to Elina Svitolina will see the Brit fall outside the top 400 in the world but she showed great fight in her 4-6 5-7 defeat to Ukraine’s number one. The Brit of course missed around six months of tennis last year on the back of reaching … Continue reading Katie Boulter leaves with positives as Kyle Edmund and Jo Konta crash out!

WTA Finals Day 7: Svitolina & Barty through on a day which saw another injury!

Elina Svitolina and Ash Barty will meet in Sunday’s final in Shenzhen but the Saturday has been dominated by yet another injury! This time sadly a set up it was Belinda Bencic who saw her match come to a quicker end than anticipated after winning the first set 7-5. Belinda had the trainer on for her back and was suffering from cramp but couldn’t continue down 7-5 3-6 1-4 to defending champion Elina Svitolina. The second match of the day saw a first meeting in 2019 between the world number one and number two ranked player on the WTA tour. … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 7: Svitolina & Barty through on a day which saw another injury!

Who will advance from semi-final Saturday to Shenzhen showdown on Sunday?

Two of the four I expected in the semi-finals are here. It has been an epic week of tennis so far and it’s going to get better as the four remaining players all eye up the Billie Jean King trophy but who will be up against who? Ash Barty v Karolina Pliskova World number one against the world number two in the semi-finals. Pliskova has surprised me, I loved watching her against Halep because we saw everything in her game. We saw lights out tennis at the beginning and at the end the bit in the middle was a bit … Continue reading Who will advance from semi-final Saturday to Shenzhen showdown on Sunday?

WTA Finals Day 6; 3 out of 3 for Svitolina βœ… Extra money πŸ’° Kenin provided a test πŸ‘πŸ»Halep & Pliskova play out a bonkers match! 🀯

No withdrawals or injuries today but good grief I need a lie down after today’s tennis. We now have our semi-finals confirmed for Saturday. Elina Svitolina will take on Belinda Bencic as we know and Ash Barty will get Karolina Pliskova but first what the hell happened today? Elina Svitolina made it three out of three and if you were to ask me at the beginning of the week who would get through to the semi-finals unscathed I wouldn’t have had the Ukrainian down as that person but she has pleasantly surprised us all. Sofia Kenin can walk away with … Continue reading WTA Finals Day 6; 3 out of 3 for Svitolina βœ… Extra money πŸ’° Kenin provided a test πŸ‘πŸ»Halep & Pliskova play out a bonkers match! 🀯
