Frustration, Irritation & Moaning; Djokovic got involved in too much unnecessary drama!

Novak Djokovic came onto court on Friday afternoon as a man who did not look very happy. His semi-final against Dominic Thiem was in fact the final game of the day to begin at Roland Garros. Earlier on in the day we had seen Nadal take out Federer, Vondrousova defeat Konta and a rollercoaster between Barty and Anisimova all having to play in wet and windy conditions. For me yesterday Novak came out with the wrong attitude he looked frustrated and it showed in his tennis. The conditions had not been ideal or day and the wind of over 40mph … Continue reading Frustration, Irritation & Moaning; Djokovic got involved in too much unnecessary drama!

Dominic Thiem 6-2 3-6 7-5 5-7 7-5 Novak Djokovic

A match that has began almost 24 hours ago has finally come to an end. We have had rain, wind, flying umbrella’s, unhappy Novak Djokovic and a bizarre cancellation of play but we now know our final line-up. Dominic Thiem will be taking on Rafael Nadal for the second consecutive year in the final. I don’t even know where to begin. I think the frustrations of Novak Djokovic ultimately cost at points during the match getting involved in stuff he didn’t need to get involved in. Dominic Thiem despite this and the weather conditions remained so focused and credit to … Continue reading Dominic Thiem 6-2 3-6 7-5 5-7 7-5 Novak Djokovic

Is this the man to halt the Nole Slam?

Novak Djokovic is two wins away from holding all four majors for the second time in his career. A win against Dominic Thiem and then either Roger or Rafa will complete that for him first he must get past this man. Is this the man to stop Novak Djokovic? By his own admission Dominic Thiem has said he didn’t start the tournament great but has now seen off Gael Monfils and the impressive Karen Khachanov in straight sets to advance to his fourth consecutive semi-final at Roland Garros. Novak Djokovic leads the head to head at 6-2 winning 3 of … Continue reading Is this the man to halt the Nole Slam?

Djokovic, Thiem, Khachanov & Sascha, who will make the final four?

This part of the post is a little bit late out following the conclusion of Del Potro and Thiem but who will be looking for the that semi-final place in the top half of the draw? Novak Djokovic (1) v Sascha Zverev (5) Novak has been flawless where as Sascha has rode his luck. Novak has played some in-form opponents and has been like a bulldozer but he has got here without facing a top 40 ranked player so it will be a tougher challenge. He was let off the hook lets be honest against Jordan Thompson and Dusan Lajovic … Continue reading Djokovic, Thiem, Khachanov & Sascha, who will make the final four?

No1 & No2 safely through

Routine, usual business, no nonsense, normal service. Whatever you want to call it Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are safely through to the second round in Paris following a routine start for them. Out of the two it was the defending champion who is looking for only his 12th title here and despite his opponent Yannick Hanfmann trying to mix it up and to give him credit and respect he stayed as competitive as possible did the German but it was the world number two who was in full control. Rafa hardly dropped a point on serve as he won … Continue reading No1 & No2 safely through

Four contenders; Dominic, Rafa, Novak & Stefanos

Following last week in Madrid I have come to a conclusion that there are four contenders for Roland Garros this year but who are they and who do I just not think will contend? Dominic Thiem Favourite? Strong word to use. Who has played the best clay court tennis so far this year? Thiem has. There are some flaws in his game in all honesty which were picked up in a good week in Madrid where he made singles semi-finals and was runner-up in doubles final. His first set against Federer it was erratic and messy, I didn’t enjoy what … Continue reading Four contenders; Dominic, Rafa, Novak & Stefanos
