Sofia Kenin ousts Serena in Paris!

Another upset in Paris as Serena Williams is out, but is it a surprise? The former world number one came up against the infectious and head strong personality of fellow American Sofia Kenin. Down 2-6 and the errors flowing off the racket of the former world number one we looked like we could be in for another upset on Day 2 of Roland Garros. Knee injury forces Serena out of Rome and casts doubts over Paris

Serena Williams has withdrawn from Rome with this on-going knee injury. The former world number one who had to with from Miami with the issue played her first match in over 50 days yesterday and on the eve of her meeting with sister Venus is still having issues with her knee. The American has announced she has withdrawn from the competition with sister Venus advancing to the next round. Serena will head home to continue her rehab before heading to Roland Garros. Serena Williams made her Grand Slam return at Roland Garros unfortunately it did end in injury so what next for the 23 time Grand Slam champion? Muscular tear = rest! Serena had to withdraw from her match against Sharapova due to a peck injury. This peck injury began against Georges when the former world number one felt a twinge and in her doubles match the next day couldn’t find her serve and couldn’t carry her bags off. Roland Garros Day 9 – Injuries, Marathons and Normal Service!

The draw is getting smaller. The quarter final line-ups are set. A day which was tipped to be a big one didn’t really deliver but what did happen on the second Monday? Serena withdrew! The news did slowly start to break and in hindsight I am slightly surprised no one picked up on anything before then following her performance and walk-off after the final set of her doubles match with Venus the night before.
